A crisp image or a scalable vector. Your choice.

SVG keeps letters as scalable outlines. PNG is best for pasting an image.

Real fonts, your words

What is the Gothic lettering studio?

The lettering studio is a browser-based image maker that draws ordinary text with real Gothic typefaces. Use it for a name, a poster title, a tattoo draft, or lettering to place over another image. You control the font, size, letter spacing, line height, alignment, ink, background, outline, and shadow. Choose an automatic canvas or a fixed square, portrait, or wide shape.

Choose from 10 typefaces, from traditional Fraktur to medieval and pixel lettering. Download a PNG image or an SVG with scalable letter outlines. SVG keeps the typeface without a font installation; use PNG if your text includes emoji or device fallback letters. If you need letters to paste into a bio or message instead, use the Gothic text generator.

Text rendering and image creation happen on your device. The fonts retain their original sources and SIL Open Font Licenses.

A little guidance

How to create and download Gothic lettering

  1. Enter your words

Type a name or phrase of up to 200 characters and choose a typeface. Wait for the font to load, then check the actual letter shapes on the live canvas.

  2. Shape the design

Choose a canvas shape, ink, and background. Adjust size, spacing, and alignment; open Finishing touches for line height, outline, and shadow. Check fitted text at its intended display size.

  3. Choose your export

Choose Download PNG for an image, Download SVG for scalable letter outlines, or Copy image to paste a PNG. The dimensions show the PNG size; SVG keeps the canvas proportions at any scale. Use PNG for characters outside the selected font.

Frequently asked questions

Lettering studio FAQ

Practical answers about backgrounds, image sizes, fonts, and exports.

How do I download Gothic lettering with a transparent background?

Select Transparent under The background, then choose Download PNG or Download SVG. The checkerboard helps you see transparent areas in the preview; it is not included in the downloaded image.

How do I copy the design as an image?

Select Copy image after the preview is ready, then paste into an app that accepts images. Image clipboard support and permissions vary by browser. If copying is unavailable or denied, Download PNG keeps the same rendered design as a file.

Can I export Gothic lettering as SVG?

Yes. Download SVG creates scalable letter outlines that keep their shape without installing the font. It includes your canvas shape, ink, background, outline, and shadow. The letters are paths, not editable text or a TTF font file. SVG requires characters included in the selected typeface; use PNG for emoji or device fallback letters. Shadow appearance can vary between design apps.

Why does the output size change for a long phrase?

Auto grows to fit wrapped lines. Square (1:1), Portrait (4:5), and Wide (16:9) keep a fixed shape and reduce the lettering size when needed; the preview tells you when text is fitted. PNG exports normally use 2× resolution, but very long designs use a lower scale to stay within 8,192 pixels per side and 16 million pixels in total. The dimensions below the preview show the PNG download size. SVG uses the same canvas proportions and can be scaled freely.

Why do some letters look different from the selected font?

The included webfont files focus on Latin lettering. Characters outside their coverage may use a device fallback font. Compare your exact words in the preview before downloading; changing the font cannot add glyphs it does not contain.

What should I do if the lettering is hard to see?

Check the ink and background together. Try charcoal on Paper or ivory on Ink. Transparent lettering takes its final background from the place where you use the PNG or SVG. Choose any ink with the rainbow Custom color picker, or use a preset. A low-contrast warning appears for difficult ink and background combinations.

Is my design kept after I leave the studio?

Typed text and editor settings are not saved as a project. Download your PNG or SVG before leaving if you want to keep the finished image. Start fresh resets the editor to its default text, font, spacing, colors, effects, canvas shape, and alignment.
